Call for MFAs – Art Apprenticeship Network (AAN) 2026 Selection Committee
The Shumka Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is looking for a current Master of Fine Arts (MFA) student to participate in the Selection Committee for Art Apprenticeship Network (AAN) 2026 program.
Established in 2020, Art Apprenticeship Network (AAN) is a program to fund student apprenticeships with established artists, curators and cultural workers. Through this program, Emily Carr students assist artists with studio work and project production. Developed to build and strengthen the local art ecosystem through a part-time apprenticeship model, the program aims to create opportunities for paid work, social connection, and hands-on experience for emerging practitioners. To date, the program has successfully matched 58 students with mentors.
Role
The successful candidate will evaluate applications from established artists, curators and cultural workers according to the following criteria:
- Clarity of project scope;
- Ability to outline expectations, and;
- Ability to demonstrate the benefit astudent-apprentice would bring to the project.
The candidate will then meet with other committee members consisting of Emily Carr staff and faculty and act as a student representative and an advocate on behalf of Emily Carr University undergraduate and graduate students in selecting 10 Mentor candidates according to the timeline below:
- Review project applications from established artists, curators and cultural workers between August 13 – 21, 2026
- Attend Selection Committee meeting scheduled for the week of August 17 – 21, 2026 (TBC).
Selection Criteria
- Be currently enrolled in ECU’s Masterof Fine Arts (MFA) program
- Have no real or perceived bias respecting any special interest group while serving as a committee member. Disclose any close personal or family relationships to the rest of the committee.
- Consider the best interests of the entire community.
- Be available and willing to contribute time between August 13 – August 21 as per the project schedule
- Knowledge and/or experience in studio production and fabrication work, administrative tasks, assisting with documentation and/or/post-production of artworks, packaging, shipping and handling works, or contributing to archive management or communications materials will be considered an asset.
Compensation
The successful candidate will receive an honorarium of $391 (based on CARFAC Jury Fee) subject to applicable fees and taxes.
