On Saturday, November 30, 2019 Emily Carr and Simon Fraser University students participating in Make Change Studio (formerly known as Business of Design) organized Local Fibres : Local Futures, a student-led, local assembly in Vancouver, BC. The event brought together students, faculty, researchers and industry to engage in critical conversations around improving policies for sustainable textile practices.

The organizers have shared a communiqué of the event with Union of Concerned Researches in Fashion, which includes a summary of discussions that took place.
