Anat Elkayam

Apprentice, Art Apprenticeship Network 2026

Anat Elkayam is an interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Media Arts in the New Media and Sound Arts program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

Anat works across performance, sound composition and installation. Through original hand-built analog and digital interfaces, she investigates how the sounds of natural sources can be transformed, and how the raw flow of electricity resembles the rhythms and textures of the natural world. By exposing the physical processes behind sound production, she asks how technology might deepen, rather than distance, our relationship with the environments we inhabit.

Her recent body of work focuses on water, using digital mediation to translate its movements and vibrations into harmonic pitches. Alongside this, she experiments with deconstructing loudspeakers into their essential elements: membranes, magnetic coils, and magnets, in order to reveal the hidden mechanisms through which electrical signals become movement of air.

Anat performed and presented her work at the Annex Theatre (Stand! Festival), Victoria at Dusk festival, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, New Media Gallery in New Westminster, and Hargrove Studio in Vancouver.
