Gil Barros
Faculty Lead, Design for Startups, Fall 2024

Gil Barros is an architect, designer and professor currently teaching at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He holds a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from FAUUSP (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo – Brazil), a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Poli-USP and completed his PhD (2013) and postdoctoral research at FAUUSP, focusing on the use of physical and conceptual models as support tools in the design process.

With a particular interest in the design process and methods, he conducted research as a Visiting Professor at SPPGA (School of Public Policy and Global Affairs) at UBC, specifically related to the interface between design disciplines and the application of design expertise in other fields.

Besides his academic activity, he has more than 15 years of design experience when he had his design practice and worked with public and private sectors in Brazil, as well as international clients.
