Hana Vie Mitchell is an multidisciplinary artist based in East Vancouver, BC. She thinks of photographs as simply another material, often placing them in direct conversation with other pervasive materials such as concrete, wood, and stone. Materials that have come to form and ground our society. This juxtaposition aims to generate conversation on the ever-present tension between decay and progress, with the aforementioned materials serving as the physical foundation on which the photographs and their content rest. Additionally, her photographs are always altered: sliced, re-composited, printed then scanned to accumulate texture and grit, always staying open-minded to the exact procedures and materials, deciding accordingly as the project unfolds.
In 2026 Mitchell was a core exhibiting member of “UNITS” for ECUAD x Capture Photo Festival. She has worked with the City of Vancouver Archives exhibiting work based on archival Material. Her work has appeared in WOO Publication in 2025 and 2023.
