Shumka x AIRS
Shumka x AIRS (Artist in Residence Studio Program) is a partnership geared to support emerging Emily Carr artist-educators through an innovative residency model.
Developed to recognize the ongoing relationship between Emily Carr and AIRS since 2019, this year-long partnership will see an Emily Carr alumni awarded with a 24-week long paid residency at an elementary school in Vancouver and investigate future collaborative possibilities to strengthen the art education ecosystem.
Shumka x AIRS offers
- Mentorship opportunity for emerging artist-educators from the Emily Carr community
- Connections between the Emily Carr artist-educators and K-12 educators
- Support to participants through financial resources, expert guidance, and exposure to the Vancouver School Board
Artist in Residence Studio program (AIRS) is a Vancouver-based initiative for providing equitable access to high quality and socially relevant visual arts education for children. Developed in partnership with the Vancouver School Board, AIRS seeks to create studio space within public elementary schools and to support local, professional artists to work in collaboration with teachers in the studio to create meaningful hands-on visual arts engagements for children across the whole school.
