SFU and Shumka Centre to collaborate on Make Change Studio 2019-2020

Simon Fraser University’s Make Change Studio is a collaborative 1-year, 4-course program bringing together designers and business students, who are interested in entrepreneurship. For the 2019 – 2020 programming, SFU has partnered with Shumka Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship to co-offer 4 courses to be taught at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The 2019- 2020 program will focus on the sustainable textile industry in Vancouver and engage two local experts in textiles and clothing — Emily Smith (co-founder of Vancouver MiniMaker Faire and founder of Vancouver Fibreshed) and Stephanie Ostler (founder and CEO of Devil May Wear).

Throughout this exciting collaboration, students from Emily Carr and SFU will learn how to create a business, identify customers, build relationships and deliver sustainable value. Working together with the instructors, the students will reignite the local textile community and create and bring together textile entrepreneurs to support one another to create an ecosystem of local opportunities and environmentally responsible products.

A call for applications outlining the program details and eligibility will be circulated in the upcoming weeks.
